Growing up when dinner-time came around we didn't just fend for ourselves and eat. We came together and would sit down at the table together, a tradition we still do to this day. However, now on my own I find myself longing for the home-cooked meals (and family memories) from the dinner table. My mom is always a cooking inspiration for me, and so why not share some of our delicious recipes with others? Food should be shared, not horded!

cookie dough truffles
In may many wanderings of the web, I happened to stumble upon this quite delicious recipe one day for cookie dough truffles! I added it to my favorites to look at later, and just never got back to it. Well, since it was the holiday season and I wanted something new to try out this year, I figured...WHY NOT! Who doesn't love cookie dough and chocolate?! I know I do!! here is the link to the original recipe I used: cookie dough truffle recipe. The author had mentioned about ruining the chocolate, which i almost did, but I will tell you a trick my mom taught me! : ) Mine don't look as pretty as the picture on the link, but they still turned out! so here we go! (p.s....THEY TASTE AMAZING)
Ingredients
1/2 cup softened salted butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 (14 oz) can of sweetened condensed milk
2 1/4 cup flour
1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
1 bag regular chocolate chips
Assembly
In a medium bowl combine butter, brown sugar, vanilla, and sweetened condensed milk. Once well combined start to add the flour and fold in the 1/2 cup of mini chocolate chips. It should have a good dough like consistency where you can shape it the way you want. If it is too sticky to shape the dough into balls let it sit in the fridge about 30 mins. It was fine for me so I didn't have to do that. With the 'dough' ready, form the dough into walnut sized balls on a cookie sheet covered with wax paper.
Place cookie dough balls in the freezer for about 2 hours to let them set.
After the two hours take out the cookie dough and prepare the chocolate to dip them in. Now the original recipe had you microwaving the chocolate chips until they were just starting to melt and stirring away so you have a smooth mixture. However, I managed to goof that up and the chocolate started to thicken again. Thinking I ruined the batch I of course went to my mother who showed me a nice trick which I may use anyways next time i make these!
Take a cooking pot and fill it with about 3 inches of water and put it on the burner until it starts to boil. Once boiling take the pot off the burner. Dump the chocolate chips in a bowl and set the bowl in the hot water. Stir the chocolate chips until you have them nice and melted. I did this and the chocolate turned out fine so try either way! : )
With the melted chocolate ready you can now dip your truffles! I found this rather difficult so I ended up coating only the top half with chocolate and letting them sit. The original recipe also said you could just drizzle the chocolate over. When all your truffles are chocolate coated let them sit in the fridge to harden and enjoy! My mom was eating them right off the cookie sheet before i even got them in the fridge!
Final Thoughts
This was quite fun to make and very delicious! It does make a lot so it would make some lovely food gifts! I keep the remaining truffles stored in the fridge and they still are quite tasty! Find different ways to add the chocolate coating...I went in and just dipped them by hand and it turned into quite the chocolatey adventure/mess! So if you have any dipping tips feel free to share! Either way it's a tasty holiday treat! So enjoy and happy eats!
