Blog This Blog That...A Short Introduction

A Little Hello
Time to get started, I suppose. First off, this probably won't be a daily blog style, more of a post as I can due to my schedule, but hopefully it'll give you a nice taste of the meals and desserts I've happily grown up with. As well as learning the ropes of how to work the blog...Be on the lookout as I'm sure formatting will continue to change.I hope to use this as a place to share some good recipes with others and learn to improve upon my own cooking skills! After all, the best way to learn is by doing, correct? As an Occupational Therapist I will say, it is important to engage in occupations that we find interesting and meaningful to help improve our everyday quality of life! It just so happens, for me, I am interested in cooking/baking, and writing (So kill two birds with one stone here!). With that all said, I welcome you here, and hope you can find a recipe or two that you throughly enjoy (and can put your own spin on). Happy food hunting :)

cookie dough truffles

In may many wanderings of the web, I happened to stumble upon this quite delicious recipe one day for cookie dough truffles! I added it to my favorites to look at later, and just never got back to it. Well, since it was the holiday season and I wanted something new to try out this year, I figured...WHY NOT! Who doesn't love cookie dough and chocolate?! I know I do!! here is the link to the original recipe I used: cookie dough truffle recipe. The author had mentioned about ruining the chocolate, which i almost did, but I will tell you a trick my mom taught me! : ) Mine don't look as pretty as the picture on the link, but they still turned out! so here we go! (p.s....THEY TASTE AMAZING)

No Bake Cookies

Oh no bake cookies! Something simple, tasty, and VERY easy to make. For a quick bake sale item or dessert to go with dinner, they're great! My mom actually hasn't made them in a while, but i've been making them for myself and friends lately. They're also a more 'healthier' dessert despite the sugar in them. So without further adieu here is the no bake recipe.

Strawberry Short Cake

Every year on my father's birthday it's been my job to either get the cake or make the cake for him. It's been my special treat to him, which was nice when I needed to get him something and had no money due to college! But it's always been a nice gesture and I generally enjoyed baking. Well, I decided to ask my roommate what kind of cake she liked so I could make her one for her birthday this year. She mentioned strawberry short cake, a good choice, but I'd never made that before. So I went a hunting online to look for a simple but good recipe I could make. Lo and behold foodnetwork and Paula Dean came to my rescue. I also decided to make the whipped cream from scratch because I think homemade just tastes better! So here are the recipes!

A Yummy Dessert Quesadilla

Dessert was always my favorite part of dinner. So many tasty treats to have, who doesn't like dessert?! Well, one place that my mom likes to get recipe ideas is from the all too familiar Food Network channel. If my dad isn't watching CNN or the Sports Channel, my mom has control of the tv. More times than not the food network is on giving her some good recipe ideas. My dad isn't a big fan of the channel, but he most certainly is a fan of what my mom and I make from the channel!

Sweet Tooth? How about Baklava!

photo courtesy of Andy Alfaro from http://media.sacbee.com/
I can remember as a kid one of my favorite Christmas desserts was ALWAYS the sweet, gooey, delicious baklava that my mom made. Another Greek recipe that involves the fun to work with phyllo dough! My brother and I would always like when she made it because she'd let us eat the end pieces right away (even if it was before dinner). After she'd taught me the recipe this has become a quick favorite of my friends, and whenever we make baked goods they generally ask for me to make it. I happily comply since one batch will give me plenty of tasty baklava.
